The Lounge by ZERRIN: The sustainable pop-up experience brings together ethical brands & events in Singapore

What an incredible three months of sustainability and style! The Lounge by ZERRIN, the first edition of our pop-up concept store in Singapore, brought together a collective of independent sustainable fashion and beauty brands, people and ideas redefining what we wear today. Over 300 customers, six events and workshops later, here’s a recap of everything that went down!

A hybrid retail and media company, ZERRIN is on a mission to raise awareness of up-and-coming brands, trailblazers and innovations pioneering a more mindful retail industry.

As part of our series of offline experiences, we launched The Lounge by ZERRIN, a roving experiential concept store which speaks to our company’s key goals:

  1. To empower and connect emerging brands & entrepreneurs in the sustainable design scene.

  2. To inspire and enable citizens to practice mindful consumerism both online and offline.

  3. To spark meaningful, progressive conversations around sustainability & entrepreneurship.

Held on the scenic second floor of The Social Space cafe, Marina One — a socially conscious cafe chain promoting inclusive employment — The Lounge brought together 18 emerging sustainable fashion, jewellery and natural beauty labels under one roof, with countries of origin including Bali, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cambodia, Canada and more.

At ZERRIN, we don’t just curate each of our partner brands for their design-led appeal, but also for their social or environmental credentials. From considered fabrics to vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics, each company's values plays a decisive part in including them in our edit.

From block printed designs that empower disadvantaged adults in Jaipur to skin care hand poured in Singapore, each of our partner labels has a meaningful impact and The Lounge pop-up enabled us to become storytellers, sharing about each brand’s origins with customers face to face.

We were thrilled to give our online community the chance to touch, feel and experience the world of ZERRIN first hand (and so happy to meet so many of you in person!)

Our pop-up also gave us the opportunity to bring the founders of many of our brand’s and customers together through panel talks, hands-on workshops and networking events.

We held three Behind the Brand panel talks, where local and internationally based business owners shared their entrepreneurial journeys, wins and challenges of building an ethically-minded company.

From learning about the nuances of working with artisan partners to the business of clean beauty, attendees included a diverse community of curious ZERRIN shoppers and readers to aspiring entrepreneurs and corporate career switchers (some even interested in launching their own responsible business!)

We also hosted two hands-on workshops with artist Vicky Harris and shoemaker Lisa Teng, both with the goal of encouraging our community to unplug, unwind, slow down and do something creative.

Above all, we’re proud of the fact that The Lounge by ZERRIN created a space for citizens in Singapore to connect, get inspired and learn something different. We’ve seen many new and existing customers walk into the store, fall in love with the unique designs and then be impressed with their positive impact, proving that style and sustainability can co-exist and go hand in hand.

So many of our conversations and interactions with you all inspired us too, because it reflects the changing mindset of our society towards purchasing products that are both appealing and long-lasting, rather than cheap and trend-driven, as well as an increasing awareness of ethics and responsible production as a whole.

Over the last three months, we’ve also used our media platform to introduce the latest news and editorials which document and share our thoughts about the sustainable fashion and beauty industry.

From entrepreneur interviews to opinion articles, we strive for our website to continue encouraging discussions on the problems that plague the industry and the solutions being introduced worldwide.

The business of sustainability is continually evolving and expanding, and so will our efforts to introduce and share the new, niche and notable driving sustainable style, beauty and culture forward.

While this may be a bittersweet ending to our three month pop-up store, ZERRIN will continue building the leading online portal for the emerging sustainable fashion and beauty industry.

And YES, The Lounge by ZERRIN will be back. Where should we pop up next?

A huge thank you to our partners who made this experience so special: Aanya, Baliza, Label Ishana, Truth & All, Dorsu, Livingwear Co, Ashepa, Maisha Concept, Alcheme, RE:ERTH, Luxe Botanics, Mmerci Encore, Talee, Muni Muni, Manava, Pyar, Solos Cosmetics, Hang with Dora, Vicky Harris, Lisa Teng Studios, and The Social Space.
