Here at ZERRIN, we’re always encouraging others to shop more consciously. Hey, it’s what we’re all about! The fact is, the fashion industry is officially one of the most polluting and socially exploitive in the world. Not only should brands be thinking about how they can become more transparent and sustainable, we as consumers should be doing our part to ask questions and find out what we can do to buy more responsibly.
That’s exactly why non-profit organisation Fashion Revolution exists. Founded in 2013 in response to the tragic Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh that took 1,138 workers lives, it organise campaigns and events around the world during Fashion Revolution Week (22 to 28 April) in order to raise awareness of the need for a more transparent industry.
This year, Fashion Revolution is returning to Singapore on Saturday 28 April for a day packed full of exciting and educational events that we’re sure you’re going to love. Held at The Hive Lavender - the hip new coworking space in town for creatives - here’s what you can expect from the day long event:
If you love supporting unique indie brands that focus on quality, craftsmanship and transparency, then we’d love you to join us for an exciting runway presentation showcasing sustainable labels from around the world.
We also wanted to spotlight individuals making waves in the conscious community, and so our models will be kick-ass women from the green community who are doing their part to advocate a more conscious way of shopping and living. Stay tuned to our social media to find out who will be modelling our clothes on the night.
We’ll also be partnering with our friends from artisanal marketplace Coopita and Artisan & Fox to showcase even more clothing, jewellery and accessories that are thoughtfully made - from sustainable fabrics to upcycled clothing and jewellery.
Here's how else you can get involved with Fashion Revolution Day on social media:
1. Ask #whomademyclothes. Encourage international brands to be more transparent with shoppers.
2. Take the #haulternative challenge. Try refreshing your wardrobe without buying new clothes through swapping, shopping second hand, renting or DIY-ing.
3. Share your fashion love story. Rifle through your wardrobe and share a note on social media about an older piece of clothing, what it means to you and the story behind it.
